How Sunshine Shoe Box Got Started

It all started when a caring mother (a previous crazy collector of Beanie Babies) discovered that what was taking up room in the closet (containers of Beanies) could bring joy to others.  She gave us ideas on how the Beanie’s could be donated and then the idea of Sunshine Shoe Box was born.  The responsibility was then passed on to us, Kayla Perkoski and James Yu, (both high school students at Oxford Academy in Cypress, California), and we are responsible for making it grow and develop.

Who Can Be a Recipient of Sunshine Shoe Box?

The boxes are intended for children that are experiencing a crisis or for those that are ill.  Hospitals, crisis centers, crisis shelters, homeless shelters, fire departments, police departments are all good examples of recipient organizations that can put our boxes into the hands of children that need a moment of “warm sunshine”.

How You Can Help
We will gratefully accept items that can be included in the Sunshine Shoe Box.  Beanie Babies or other small plush toys (due to health department restrictions, must still have the tag and be like new), small boxes of crayons, coloring books, small balls, card games, journals, toothbrushes, small tubes of toothpaste, deodorant, brushes and combs.  Click here for a list of items.  All items must be new, not used.   Monetary donations are accepted too, made payable to Sunshine Shoe Box Foundation.  All donations, whether in the form of shoe box filler items or cash, can be sent to Sunshine Shoe Box Foundation, 4569 Blanca Drive, Cypress, CA 90630.   Or call (714) 826-8361 and we can make arrangements for pick-up.    If you are already thinking of a way to help, we thank you.
